__NOTITLE__

The Satellite Meetings at the January 2010 GMOD Meeting proved so popular that we are holding them again, this time the day after the meeting, and immediately before Genome Informatics 2010.

We currently have 15 people registered for the Satellite meetings. If you are attending the GMOD meeting, but haven't yet signed up for the Satellites then we encourage you to do so. You can also sign up for Satellites during the GMOD meeting itself. The Satellites are free.

We are allocating some time during the GMOD Meeting for people to propose topics for satellites. If you have a topic you would like to discuss with other interested GMOD community members, please bring it up during breaks and during the meeting. The Post Reference Genome Tools satellite is still on and will be led by Dave C. I may be contacting you individually over the next few days to ask for your participation and contribution to this satellite.

If you have a topic that you want to cover in a Satellite Meeting, please

  1. Add the topic to the list below. Be sure to include your contact information.
  2. Send an email about the satellite to the appropriate GMOD Mailing Lists.

All satellite meetings will conclude in time for participants to make it to the start of Genome Informatics on Wednesday night.

Topic Organizer(s) Time Comments
Post Reference Genome Tools 1 Dave Clements To be determined How are we going to visualize and exploit (or even cope with) the world three years from now, when small labs may be able to fully sequence 500 individuals or species (or more) in a month? How can we visualize and link together 500, 1000, or 10,000 genomes? Many existing tools assume a reference genome. Will a reference make sense in the future, or will it hold us back?
Add Your Idea ↑ Add your name ↑ Add your powerful argument why people should spend time at this satellite. ↑

If you are interested in participating in any of these satellites, please

  1. check the Satellite Meetings box on the GMOD Europe 2010 registration form, and
  2. notify the organizer that you are interested in participating.

1 This idea is one of many that were considered, but not emphasized, for the GMOD Evo Hackathon, also being held this fall. Many of these ideas would also make good satellites. If one interests you, please volunteer to lead it.

Registration

Registration is free, but required, as space is limited. Please see the GMOD Europe 2010 page for a link to the registration form. You may register for multiple events, or just the satellite meetings.

Participants

This list is tentative. We expect many additions and a few deletions between now and the start of the event.

School of Biological Sciences Bioinformatics Training Facility

This event is sponsored by the Cambridge Computational Biology Institute and the School of Biological Sciences Bioinformatics Training Facility. The CCBI is set up to bring together the unique strengths of Cambridge in medicine, biology, mathematics and the physical sciences. Its aim is to create a centre of excellence in research and teaching and to promote collaborations both within the Cambridge area and beyond. The Bioinformatics Training Facility organises practical training for both undergraduates and postgraduates. The vast majority of their postgraduate events are open and free to all who might benefit.

CCBI provided copious organizational and logistical support for this event. The Bioinformatics Training Facility is generously providing all coffee, tea, and break snacks at no charge. Please thank Gos Micklem, Richard Smith, Shelley Lawson, and Dave Judge profusely every time you see them.
